Todos os que cresceram nos anos 90 a ouvir Rock e a ver Mtv (quando ainda era um canal de música) conhecem o seu trabalho. Com uma forte linguagem visual por vezes inspirada nos irmãos Quay e em Jan Švankmajer, Stuhr dedicou a sua vida profissional a criar imaginários ricos que viajaram além fronteiras e inspiraram uma nova geração de realizadores e animadores de stop motion. Estaremos eternamente gratos por tudo Fred, a tua memória está presente no nosso trabalho. 

Everybody that grew up in the 90's listening to Rock and watching Mtv (when it was still a music channel) know his work. With a strong visual language some times inspired by the Brothers Quay and Jan Švankmajer, Stuhr dedicated his professional life in creating rich imaginaries that traveled beyond borders and inspired a new generation of stop motion directors and animators. We are eternally gratefull for everything Fred, your memory will be present in our work,

Beats Antique é um projecto experimental maior que a própria vida. Misturando todos os tipos de música que se consegue imaginar num embrulho digital e aliando novas tecnologias na área dos Media a espectáculos de dança, este trio tem uma presença épica e nada os faz parar de crescer. Como se isso não fosse suficiente tiveram recentemente esta participação do Rei do Baixo Les Claypool, mais conhecido como o frontman dos Primus, mítica banda norte americana de quem sou eternamente apaixonado. 

Mas não estamos aqui para falar de música mas sim de animação. Com a direcção de Ivan Landau e assistência na escultura por parte de Rich Zimmerman e Edgar Humberto Alvarez, toda esta viagem em plasticina foi excelentemente animada por Webster Colcord, que entre grandes produções "Hollywoodescas" animadas digitalmente ainda tem tempo para nos surpreender com trabalhos em stop motion sempre interessantes e de fazer perder a cabeça. Pessoalmente acho isto admirável e percebo quando estou perante algo que ficará para sempre na minha memória como referencia de grande qualidade de animação, estética e acima de tudo imaginação. 

Beats Antique is an experimental project bigger than life itself. Mixing all types of music that you can think of in a neat digital package and combining new Media technologies to dancing, this trio has an epic presence and nothing is going to stop them. As if that wasn't enough they teamed up with Les Claypool, king of bass and frontman from Primus, a mythical north american band that i hold forever dear to my heart. 

But we are here to discuss animation and not music. Directed by Ivan Landau and with the assistance sculptors Rich Zimmerman and Edgar Humberto Alvarez, this journey was enterily animated by Webster Colcord, that when he is not digitally animating major "hollywoodesque" blockbusters is surprising us with always interesting stop motion projects that make us blow our minds. Personally i found this admirable and am entirely aware that i'm facing something that will always be in my memory as a reference to great quality, aesthetics and above all imagination.

Brincadeiras à parte estamos perante um vídeo original, carregado de acção e personagens bem animadas, onde o Diabo é a reencarnação de Tony Montana e sua vitimas ursinhos de peluche repletos de guloseimas...há alguma coisa melhor para começar a semana?

For all those who had the urge of dismembering, in a not so good day, a teddy bear on an impulse of rage, here is a pearl filled with violence and cuddling teddy bears. All jokes aside we witness here an original video, filled with action and good animated characters, where the Devil is a reincarnation of Tony Montana and its victims teddy bears filled with sweets...is there any better way to start the week?

"Uma estória de amor comovente entre dois triângulos" é uma sinopse que deixa qualquer um curioso em saber que raio é que o realizador estava a pensar. Foi com essa energia que comecei a ver este videoclip, de imediato fiquei surpreendido pela poesia visual que foi aqui criada, através de simples personagens geométricas e praticamente bi-dimensionais somos levados pelo enredo a assistir a uma obra quase shakespeariana repleta de sentimento e de força de vontade.

"A moving love story between two triangles."is a synopsis that leaves any guy curious to know what the heck as the director thinking. It was with that energy that i start watching this videoclip, immediately i was surprised with the visual poetry that was created here, using simple geometrical and practically bi-dimensional characters we are taken into a Shakesperianesque plot filled with feeling and will power.

Devo admitir que este vídeo chamou-me bastante à atenção. Cenários ambiciosos com uma excelente fotografia, uma construção de marionetas fenomenal e uma animação muito boa a acompanhar a melodia faz de "In our Talons" um dos meus vídeos musicais preferidos. Espero que gostem.

I must admit that this video caught my attention. Ambicious sets with an excelent cinematography,  fenomenal puppet fabrication and some beautifull animation to follow the melody make "In our talons" one of my favorite music videos ever. Hope you guys like it.

Um belo projecto intercontinental que se concretizou graças ao sucesso de uma campanha de crowdfunding. Através de brilhantes ilustrações de Molly Crabapple, uma divertida musica de Kim Boekbinder e a animação de Jim Batt temos aqui um resultado bastante interessante que leva a técnica do cut-out a outro nível. Aviso...a musica fica na cabeça e irás cantar-la o dia todo. :)

A beautifull intercontinental project that gained shape due to a sucefull crowfunding campaign. Combining brilliant illustrations from Molly Crabapple, fun music from Kim Boekbinder and the animation of Jim Batt we have some very interesting results that take cut-out to a diferent level. Be warned...the music will make you sing all day long. :)

Mais uma vez este estúdio Australiano cria um excelente vídeo musical. Depois de nos terem trazido algo mágico cheio de montagem e pós-produção, "Gotye: Easy Way Out", temos acesso a algo que transcende as fronteiras de um estúdio controlado e abre horizontes para um cenário mais real. Não quer dizer que este vídeo não tenha a sua cota parte de pós-produção, tem e não é pouca, no entanto aqui podemos celebrar a excelente direcção fotográfica de outra forma, através de paisagens urbanas que compõem de forma espectacular esta façanha.


Once again this Australian Studio brings us an excelent music vídeo. After bringing us something magical filled with editing and post-production, "Gotye: Easy Way Out", we see here something that trancendes the boarders of a controled studio and opens our horizonts to a more realistc scenery. Not that this video as any less post-production, it seems to have quite a bit, but here we can celebrate a beautifull Photography direction in another way, through the urban landscape that compose this spectacular feat.

Every once in a while there are videos that surprise us and this one caught my attention in every way. From the scenery chosen to the light games, from the mirrors that appear on and of to the trip the director takes us through space, every thing fits perfectly and always to the beat of the music. Este curioso estúdio de animação opera entre Portugal e a Eslováquia. É definido pelo seu estilo muito próprio, onde por vezes a animação não é a mais fluída, mas o seu carácter e a identidade não só estão fortemente marcados nos seus trabalhos como são facilmente reconhecidos de tão originais. Apesar de trabalhar bastante em publicidade além fronteiras são os seus videoclips que mais me chamam à atenção.

This curious animation studio works between Portugal and Slovakia. Defined by its own very characteristic style, where sometimes the animation is not the most fluid, it as character and identity that is strongly present in the variety of work produced and its easily identified for its originality. Although they work alot in advertisement for abroad its was their music videos that got my attention.

É raro ver algo em Strata-Cut animation hoje em dia, sendo assim aqui está um vídeo que mistura imagem real com um pouco de Stop Motion. No entanto o pouco que tem está muito bem animado e vale a pena ver o making of nem que seja só para perceber melhor o trabalho que dá fazer Strata-Cut animation. Está longe das frenéticas e alucinogénicas animações do David Daniels mas gostei.

Its rare to see Strata-cut animation nowadays and thats why im posting this video that uses live action film with just a little bit of stop motion. I must say that the bit of stop motion is brilliantly animated and the making of is well worth watching just to see how its done and the hard work involved. Its far away from the frenetic and hallucinogenic animations from David Daniels but i liked it.

Eis o que dá quando se mistura o conceito do Zootropo com a técnica do Stop Motion. Adorei sobretudo o resultado final maioritariamente pelo visual muito original e alegre.

É muito raro haver músicos a investir tanto em animação para promover a sua imagem como Gotye. Desde sempre demonstrou não só um gosto por esta arte como um verdadeiro interesse em todo o tipo de animação explorando as qualidades de inúmeros realizadores, animadores e estilos. Que continue assim.
